I think the most noticeable aspect Accelerate has had an impact on in my life is my mindset. I used to be someone who would try and do everything using strength from within. Even though I would pray to get through big occasions like exams I would then resort back to a way that resulted in me attempting to sort my struggles on my own. Knowing that my friends were able to get through life without relying on God was definitely something that played a part in conjuring up this mindset.
Having learnt the hard way however, I have now learnt that when you know the power of God in your life, rejecting that and deliberately not turning to it when you need it is something that really tears you apart.
I love what it say in Romans 12:2 “We do not conform to the pattern of the world,” as it has given me revelation about the fact that we are not called to live a life that others live, but one that is separate from the world to showcase the wonder of God.
I now rely on the word to find my way out of situations and also use faith in God to believe that my situation will produce the best possible result. In the book we are reading by John Maxwell, Developing the Leader Within You, it talks about the fact that “What really counts is not what happens to me but what happens in me”, therefore I can either let my problems dictate my situation or I can take hold of them and overcome them. Having this complete change of perspective has allowed me to see my problems as temporary inconveniences rather than long term road blocks. I realise that through my journey of challenges God is try- ing to mould me into someone He can use in more situations. He is making my life fuller and more saturated with different experiences and gifts.
In 1 Corinthians 10:13 it says “And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.” This has allowed me to realise that I have the ability to overcome every situation if I have a mindset focused on fulfilling God’s will. I now actively look for the way out in tempting situations, and have started to develop an ongoing standard of fasting and self-control related activities so that I am constantly building foundations in my life. This will allow me to get through temptations that I once majorly struggled with. It has helped me realise that God is not putting us through these temptations, but He is letting us experience them to make us better and show his unfailing commitment to our growth.
