A Joshua and Caleb Spirit – Robert Gilmour

One of the first things that caught my eye when I first came to C7 was the many ways that people were empowered with boldness in the work of the Lord. People are full of confidence and expectation for the things of God and His Kingdom. As a result of seeing the impact it was having on others in the church, I chose to participate in Accelerate.

We have a prayer at C7 for God to ‘give us Scotland that it may live!’ If we consider the book of Numbers from the Old Testament, God told Moses that he would have a land that the people of God would possess, a good land, a promised land!

We find in Numbers 13 how the spies were sent up to the land of Canaan. They had to survey the land, being of good courage and bringing of the fruit of the land. They had to cut a pole for two men to carry bunches of grapes. On returning, the spies dwelt on the negative reports but Joshua and Caleb had seen what God had wanted and said;

“let us go up at once and possess it, we are able to overcome it.”

The other spies didn’t listen to Moses words to ‘be of good courage and bring the harvest’. Their lack of boldness was all that stood between then and reaping the harvest and possessing the land. Too many Ames in life we do as the spies did and only focus on the negatives.

As I embrace the teaching and encouragement I get through Accelerate, I realise there is great fruit to be not only gathered but possessed in the city of Glasgow and the nation of Scotland. The milk and honey is here, the fruit in clusters is here in abundance, but there will not be a harvest unAl we take them for the Kingdom. It is up to us to be actively taking the land of God. The fruit is not a harvest unAl you possess it.

Our Accelerate teaching invigorates us as a team and as individuals to be bold and realise that we have to act on God’s work and plan now. We are the ones with the opportunity to go forward in God’s plan, by blessing and taking back our land to let Scotland live. There’s a choice to be made and we have made it. We can overcome giants in the land and in our personal lives.

Since our Accelerate course has great teachers of the word and leaders with our development at their heart, we can only grow in our relationship with God and in our daily walk. We can now identify a purpose to our time and calling from God and have a vision for Scotland.

Numbers 14:8 states: “If the Lord delights in us, he will bring us into this land, and give it to us, a land overflowing with milk and honey.”
