‘Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.‘ – Psalm 37:4
Have you ever stopped to think, ‘what does it feel like when you delight yourself in something or someone?’
According to the dictionary, ‘delight’ means to find great pleasure, satisfaction, or happiness: a high degree of pleasure or enjoyment; joy or rapture.
How often do we find ourselves in a place where we are truly ‘delighting ourselves in the Lord?’ How often do we get to the point where we find great pleasure just being in His presence, where we not only enjoy His company but, in it we find the fullness of joy?
We’ve spoken a lot over this time of prayer and fasting about seeking God’s face, rather than just His hand. I believe this is where true prayer and true intimacy with the Father lies – where we just want to be in His presence… and do you know something… He DELIGHTS in being with us.
Psalm 18:19 says, ‘He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.’
How amazing is this?
God DELIGHTS in us. The maker of Heaven and Earth finds great pleasure in being in our company!!!
When we begin to grasp this profound truth I believe it has the power to radically transform our prayer life from something of routine or habit, or a list of needs, into a time of true relationship.
When you close your door today and get your quiet time with God, why not start by thanking Him for the simple truth that He loves you so much that He not only wants to be with you but that he truly delights, enjoys and finds great pleasure in spending time with you. I can almost guarantee that in this place you too will delight in Him.
